Before & After: Transform Any Space with Virtual Staging AI

From Empty Room → To Staged Living Room

Before and after virtual staging of an empty, sunlit living room, now with a cream sofa, armchairs, coffee table, bookshelf, rug and plants.

Virtual staging turns an empty room into a furnished, lived-in interior in seconds. Upload the photo, pick the object tags you need and describe the style in the prompt, for example "warm Scandinavian living room". The AI works from your photo, so the walls, windows and camera angle generally stay in place while furniture, decor and light are added. It suits real estate listings, design proposals and vacant homes.

From Old Furniture → To New Design

Side by side view of a living room virtually staged with ArchiVinci Virtual Staging AI, showing the sofa color changed from white to green.

Outdated or mismatched furniture is easy to replace. In ArchiVinci's Edit module, brush or lasso the old sofa, then type what should go there, such as "green velvet sofa", or upload a photo of the exact piece you want. Everything outside your selection stays as in the original photo, which is why Modify Room edits suit designers and property sellers alike.

Cluttered Room → Decluttered + Restaged

Before and after: a sunlit living room with a TV console, coffee table, rug and plants, cleared to an empty space that is ready to restage.

Got a room that feels too busy? Clear it first with Remove Furniture, which runs in the Edit module, then restage the empty result in Furnish with fewer, calmer pieces. This two-step approach works for listings where the seller's belongings are still in place, renovation previews and minimal makeovers.

What Is Virtual Staging AI?

Virtual staging AI adds furniture, decor and lighting to a picture of a room, so buyers and clients can see a furnished space without moving real furniture. Unlike traditional virtual staging software, where 3D furniture is placed by hand, ArchiVinci generates the staged image from your picture and a short prompt. It runs in the browser, accepts photos, renders, 3D model screenshots and sketches (PNG, JPEG or WEBP, up to 5 MB) and returns a JPEG in seconds.

Step by Step: How to Virtually Stage a Room with AI

Step 1: Upload Your Image

Open the Furnish module and upload a photo, render, sketch or 3D model screenshot of the room as a PNG, JPEG or WEBP file up to 5 MB. Sharp, well-lit images work best. Empty and half-furnished rooms can go straight in; clear a cluttered room in Edit first.

Step 2: Describe the Style and Furniture in the Prompt

Write a short instruction in plain English, for example "Japandi living room with a low linen sofa, oak coffee table and paper floor lamp". Style, colors and mood all go in the prompt, so you can be as specific as you like.

Step 3: Choose Objects to Add

Click object tags, such as a sofa, rug or plants, to tell the AI which pieces to include. To show a specific product, upload a reference photo of that chair, sofa or lamp, and the AI fits it into the room's perspective and light.

Step 4: Choose an Engine and Image Count

ArchiVinci 4.0 is the default engine: unlimited on premium plans, 1 credit per image on the free plan. Nano Banana 2, GPT Image 2, Seedream 5.0 Lite and Qwen Image 2 cost 1 coin per image. On premium, the ArchiVinci engine returns 1–4 images per run.

Step 5: Generate Staging

Click Generate. ArchiVinci's virtual staging AI reads your image, prompt, tags and any reference photo together and returns a staged JPEG, usually within seconds. Because the model starts from your picture, it generally keeps the camera angle, walls and windows, and new pieces follow the existing perspective and light. If you asked for several images, compare them side by side.

Step 6: Review and Refine

Compare the results and keep the best one. On premium plans, Upscale can enlarge a render up to 4096 px on the long side. To fix a detail, choose Edit render: select the area with the brush, eraser or lasso and describe the change, such as "swap the rug for a jute one", or apply a texture from the library.

Step 7: Download or Animate

Download the staged image as a JPEG for listings, presentations or portfolios. To add motion, choose Animate to open the Video module (5, 10 or 25 coins per clip). Renders stay in your history for 7 days, so save what you need.

Advantages of AI Home Staging for Agents and Designers

Speed and Cost Savings

AI staging removes the need to rent, move and set up physical furniture. A staged image comes back in seconds rather than the days a staging crew or 3D artist needs, and premium plans include unlimited ArchiVinci 4.0 renders, so trying another layout costs nothing extra.

Flexible Edits Without Starting Over

Change the style by editing the prompt, swap a single piece in Edit, or generate 1–4 options per run on premium. Each change starts from the same photo, so you can follow client feedback one step at a time.

Photorealistic Results for Listings

Current image models render convincing materials, shadows and reflections, so staged rooms read like real photographs. That makes them persuasive in listings, client decks and portfolios, as long as you disclose that the furniture is virtual.

Lower Environmental Impact Than Physical Staging

Virtual staging eliminates the need for transporting and assembling physical furniture, reducing carbon emissions and material waste. It's a more sustainable way to showcase interior potential.

Several Design Options for the Same Room

In a single session, users can create several versions of the same room to explore different aesthetics, layouts, or moods—helping decision-makers better visualize the possibilities before committing to a direction.

The Technology Behind ArchiVinci's Virtual Staging

AI Engines Available for Virtual Staging

ArchiVinci 4.0 (Default Engine):

ArchiVinci 4.0 is the default engine in the Furnish, Interior and Edit modules. It is an instruction-following image model that reads your picture, prompt, tags and any reference photo together. On premium plans it is unlimited and returns 1–4 images per run; on the free plan, each image uses 1 credit.

Partner Models (1 Coin per Image):

The same engine menu also offers Nano Banana 2, GPT Image 2, Seedream 5.0 Lite and Qwen Image 2. Each costs 1 coin and returns one image per run. Premium plans include a coin allowance, so you can compare how different models stage the same room.

How the AI Stages a Room:

Most of today's image generators are based on diffusion models, which start from random noise and refine it step by step into an image that matches a text prompt. When an input photo guides that process, the output keeps the photo's composition while furniture, materials and light are added in.

Why the Input Image Matters:

The picture you upload anchors the result. A sharp, level photo or a clean 3D model screenshot with visible walls, floor and windows gives the AI a reliable base; dark, blurry or heavily distorted wide-angle shots leave more to chance. That is why 3D virtual staging works well: a view exported from SketchUp or another 3D tool already has correct perspective, so the AI can focus on adding furniture, materials and light.

What This Means for Your Staged Images:

You stay in control of the camera, the room and the furniture choices, while the model handles realistic materials, shadows and reflections. Results vary from run to run, so generating a few options and refining the best one in Edit is the most reliable workflow for designers, real estate agents and homeowners.

Keeping Your Room's Layout and Camera Angle

Image-Guided Generation:

ArchiVinci's virtual staging AI generates from your uploaded picture, not from text alone. Walls, windows, doors and the camera position come from your image, so staged results usually line up with the original photo.

Room Type Comes From Your Prompt and Image:

Write "bedroom", "home office" or "cafe" in the prompt, and the AI combines that with what it sees in the photo to choose furniture that suits the space.

Working with Existing Furniture:

Furnish works best on empty or sparsely furnished rooms. To replace or clear existing pieces, use Edit: only the area you select changes, and everything outside it stays as in your original photo.

Controlling What Goes Where in a Staged Room

Object Tags and the Prompt:

Tags tell the AI which items to add, and the prompt adds position and detail, for example "a round dining table under the pendant light" or "a reading chair beside the window".

Reference Furniture Photo:

In Furnish and Edit you can upload a photo of a specific sofa, chair or lamp, and the AI adds that piece to the room. It is a simple way to do virtual furniture staging with a real product.

Brush, Eraser and Lasso in Edit:

For precise changes, mark an area with the brush, eraser or polygonal lasso and describe what should appear there. Only the selected area is regenerated, so the rest of the staged room stays untouched.

Materials, Lighting and Final Quality

Textures from the Built-In Library:

Edit includes a texture library with wood, stone, fabric, leather, flooring, ceramic tiles, plaster, metal and more. Select a floor, wall or sofa, apply a texture or upload your own, and only that surface changes.

Lighting Through the Prompt:

Describe the light you want, such as "soft morning daylight" or "warm evening lamps". The Interior module also offers presets like golden hour and studio. To change the light of a finished render, see AI Relight.

Output Size and Resolution:

ArchiVinci 4.0 renders are about 1.5 megapixels. On premium plans, Upscale can enlarge a finished render up to 4096 px on the long side, which is sharp enough for listing photos, brochures and presentations.

What You Can Control When You Stage a Room with AI

Style and Mood Set in the Prompt

Name the style you want, such as Scandinavian, industrial or Japandi, and add mood words like "bright and airy" or "warm evening light". The AI applies that description across furniture, colors and lighting, and you can rerun with a different style in seconds.

Object Tags and Reference Photos of Real Furniture

Pick object tags to choose what gets added, or upload a photo of an actual sofa, chair or rug in Furnish or Edit. The AI stages that piece in your room instead of a generic one.

Targeted Edits with Brush, Eraser and Lasso

Select any part of a staged image, such as a rug, a lamp or a wall, and change only that area with a prompt, a texture or a reference photo. Everything outside the selection stays as it was.

Lighting and Material Changes After Staging

Once a room is staged, swap a wood floor for stone tiles from the texture library, or describe new light, such as "golden hour", in an Edit prompt, the same approach the AI Relight tool uses.

Up to Four Staging Variations per Run on Premium

With the ArchiVinci engine on a premium plan, each run returns 1–4 images. Compare layouts side by side and keep the one that fits the brief; partner models and the free plan return one image per run.

3D Virtual Staging from Model Screenshots and SketchUp

Export a view from SketchUp, Revit, Rhino or any 3D tool as an image and stage it like a photo. SketchUp users can also render without leaving SketchUp through the ArchiVinci plugin, unlimited on premium.

What Are the Most Common Uses of Virtual Staging?

Real Estate Marketing

Virtual staging for real estate helps agents market vacant or dated homes. Staged photos show buyers how each room could be used and give a listing a consistent look, without renting furniture. With ArchiVinci, an agent can stage every room of a listing in one session and keep the original photos for disclosure.

Interior Design Visualization

Interior designers use virtual staging to test concepts on the client's own room photo. Show two or three styles from the same view, swap in a specific sofa with a reference photo, and agree on colors before anything is ordered.

Furniture Retail and E-commerce

Furniture brands and online stores can upload a product photo as a reference image and show that piece in styled rooms. Lifestyle scenes help shoppers judge scale, color and texture in context, without organizing a photo shoot.

Home Renovation Planning

Homeowners and remodelers can preview new flooring, wall colors or furniture on a photo of the current room before buying anything. Edit changes only the area you select, so a new floor or sofa can be compared directly with the room as it is today.

Virtual Staging vs Traditional Staging: What’s Different?

Traditional staging means renting furniture, moving it in and styling each room by hand, which takes days and has to be undone when the home sells. AI virtual staging works on the photos instead: there is nothing to deliver or remove, results arrive in seconds, and the same room can be shown in several styles. Physical staging still lets buyers walk through a furnished home, so some agents combine both: key rooms staged physically, the rest virtually.

What Images Can You Use for AI Virtual Staging?

  • Room photographs (empty or furnished)

  • 3D model screenshots and renders

  • Architectural sketches or concept drawings

  • Cluttered or under-furnished space photos

  • Image files in PNG, JPEG or WEBP format, up to 5 MB

What Types of Spaces Can Be Virtually Staged?

  • Residential interiors: bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms

  • Commercial interiors: offices, shops, lobbies, cafes

  • Outdoor extensions: balconies, patios, terraces

  • Studio apartments and compact living areas

  • Open-plan layouts and every room of a listing

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I stage a room photo that still has the owner's furniture in it?

Yes. Clear the existing furniture first in the Edit module (the Remove Furniture workflow), then stage the empty room in Furnish. To swap one item, select it in Edit and describe the replacement.

Do I need a 3D model, or can I use a regular photo for staging?

No 3D model is needed. ArchiVinci's virtual staging AI works with ordinary room photos, including smartphone shots, as well as renders, sketches and 3D model screenshots in PNG, JPEG or WEBP up to 5 MB. If you do have a model, a clean screenshot gives the AI accurate perspective and is a quick way to preview unbuilt interiors.

Which interior design styles can I use with virtual staging AI?

Any style you can describe. Type it in the prompt, for example Scandinavian, Japandi, mid-century modern, boho or industrial, and mix styles or name specific materials if you like.

How accurate are the furniture proportions and room dimensions in the render?

Proportions are usually convincing when the input has clear perspective and a visible floor and walls, because the AI builds on your image. It does not measure the room, though, so staged furniture is a visual suggestion rather than a to-scale layout. Check exact sizes in your CAD or 3D model before sharing with clients.

Is virtual staging allowed on real estate listings?

Yes, in most markets, as long as it is disclosed. Label staged images as virtually staged, never use staging to hide defects or change fixed features such as windows or flooring, and keep an unstaged photo available. Rules differ by country, state and MLS, so check the requirements where you list.

How does AI virtual staging handle different lighting conditions in photos?

The AI follows the light in your photo, so new pieces usually match its direction and color. You can set a different mood in the prompt; very dark photos give weaker results.

Can virtual staging AI help with outdoor or balcony spaces?

Yes. Upload a photo of a balcony, patio, terrace or garden and describe the outdoor furniture, planters or lighting you want. For bigger exterior changes, use the Exterior module.

Is it possible to upload custom furniture or decor items to the AI tool?

Yes. In the Furnish and Edit modules you can upload a photo of a specific furniture piece or decor item, and the AI places it into your room.

Can I generate multiple design options for the same room using the AI?

Yes. On premium plans the ArchiVinci engine returns 1–4 images per run with unlimited renders, so you can rerun with new prompts as often as you like.

Does ArchiVinci provide integration options with real estate listing platforms?

No. ArchiVinci has no direct listing-platform integration. Download your staged JPEGs and upload them to any MLS, portal or website as usual.

How are the photos I upload for virtual staging handled?

Uploads use HTTPS encryption; ArchiVinci never trains AI models on them. Renders stay in your history for 7 days. See our Terms and Privacy Policy.

Which AI engines can I use for virtual staging?

ArchiVinci 4.0 is the default: unlimited on premium plans and 1 credit per image on the free plan. Partner models Nano Banana 2, GPT Image 2, Seedream 5.0 Lite and Qwen Image 2 cost 1 coin per image.

How Long Does It Take to Generate a Virtual Staging Render?

Usually a few seconds, depending on the engine and how many images you request. You can send a new request every 10 seconds.

Are There Limitations in Virtual Staging with AI?

Yes. AI staging depends on the input: dark, blurry or distorted photos can produce odd proportions, and results vary between runs. Generate a few options and review every image before publishing.

Is there a free version of ArchiVinci's AI virtual staging tool?

Yes. New accounts get 3 free credits, and the free plan creates one image per run. Premium plans (weekly, monthly, yearly or one-time passes) add unlimited ArchiVinci 4.0 renders, Upscale and coins for partner models and video. See plans and pricing.

How widely is the ArchiVinci platform used?

ArchiVinci has more than 800,000 registered users in 165+ countries and has produced over 5 million renders across all of its tools, including virtual staging. It runs in the browser, so there is nothing to install.
