Updated on: 20 October 2026
Quick answer: Revit 2027, the current release, needs 64-bit Windows 11, an Intel or AMD processor with a base clock of 2 GHz or higher (the highest single-core clock is recommended), 16 GB of RAM for models up to about 300 MB (32 GB for about 600 MB, 64 GB for about 1 GB), a DirectX 11 graphics card with Shader Model 5 (4 GB of video memory recommended), a 1280 × 1024 display, 30 GB of disk space plus 100 GB free for temporary files, and .NET 10. Revit 2026 still runs on Windows 10 version 1809 or later. There is no macOS version: on a Mac, Autodesk lists Windows 11 in Parallels Desktop.
This guide follows Autodesk's Revit 2027 system requirements and its Help pages on workstation hardware, checked in October 2026. It covers the three configurations Autodesk lists (Minimum, Value and Performance), what each component does, Revit 2026 for Windows 10 users, cloud worksharing, Macs, Revit LT and AutoCAD, and ends with a laptop checklist and how to check your own computer.

Revit recalculates parametric geometry, constraints and the relationships between elements as you work, so a computer that falls short shows it as delays when views update, when you synchronize with the central model and when you navigate.
Autodesk describes Revit as a computationally intensive application that benefits from a high-performance CPU and enough RAM; the graphics card draws the views, and Autodesk strongly recommends a dedicated one. Rendering is a separate load: cloud-based rendering tools move it from your computer to remote servers.

What Changed From Revit 2026 to 2027
Windows 10 is no longer supported: Revit 2027 and Revit LT 2027 run only on 64-bit Windows 11.
.NET 10 replaces .NET 8 (Revit 2026 needs .NET 10 from version 2026.5).
Accelerated Graphics is no longer a Tech Preview: Autodesk calls it production-ready in Revit 2027 and now asks for OpenGL 4.5 or higher.
On a Mac, Parallels Desktop now needs macOS 13.7 or newer, 32 GB of memory on the Mac and a Windows 11 virtual machine; Accelerated Graphics is not supported there.
Revit Server 2027 adds Windows Server 2025.
Processor, memory, video memory, display and disk figures are unchanged.
Revit 2026 Requirements (for Windows 10 Users)
Revit 2026 still lists 64-bit Windows 10 version 1809 or later as well as Windows 11, with .NET 8 (.NET 10 from version 2026.5); its processor, memory, graphics, display and disk figures are the same as for 2027. Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 Home and Pro on 14 October 2025, and under Autodesk's support lifecycle Autodesk stops supporting its products on an operating system once the vendor does. Plan the move to Windows 11 before you upgrade to Revit 2027. Revit 2025's page lists Windows 10 or 11, a processor of 2.5 GHz or more, 4 GB of video memory at every level and 30 GB of free disk space.
Minimum Revit System Requirements for Windows
Autodesk calls this level Minimum: Entry-Level Configuration. It is usually enough for a typical editing session on a single model of up to about 300 MB on disk. For Revit 2027 it lists:
Operating system: 64-bit Windows 11 (Revit 2026: Windows 10 version 1809 or later, or Windows 11)
Processor: Intel or AMD with a base clock of 2 GHz or higher; the highest single-core clock is recommended
Memory: 16 GB of RAM
Graphics: a card capable of 24-bit color, with DirectX 11 and Shader Model 5; 4 GB of video memory recommended
Display: 1280 × 1024 with true color
Storage: 30 GB for installation, plus 100 GB of free disk space recommended for temporary files
Software and connection: .NET 10, Chrome, Edge or Firefox, and an internet connection for license registration and prerequisite downloads
Autodesk bases its model sizes on internal testing and customer reports, and individual models vary. It does not recommend Accelerated Graphics at this level.
Recommended Revit PC Requirements for Daily Work
Autodesk's Value: Balanced price and performance configuration is usually enough for a single model of up to about 600 MB on disk. Compared with the minimum:
Memory: 32 GB of RAM or more
Graphics: DirectX 11 with Shader Model 5 and 6 GB of video memory
Display: 1680 × 1050 with true color, up to a 4K monitor
Everything else (operating system, processor, storage, software): the same as the minimum; Autodesk's page names no drive type at any level
This is the first level at which Autodesk lists Accelerated Graphics: it recommends a card with 8 GB or more of video memory and requires OpenGL 4.5 or higher. If you buy a new computer for everyday project work, aim at least for these figures.
High-Performance Revit Hardware Requirements for Large Models
Autodesk's Performance: Large, complex models configuration is usually enough for a single model of up to about 1 GB on disk. It raises these figures:
Memory: 64 GB of RAM or more
Graphics: DirectX 11 with Shader Model 5 and 8 GB of video memory; Accelerated Graphics as at the Value level
Display: 1920 × 1200 with true color, up to a 4K monitor
Everything else: the same as the minimum
For the best experience with Accelerated Graphics, Autodesk's Help recommends at least 64 GB of system RAM and a graphics card with 8 GB of memory, and notes that turning it on in several views can raise memory use. It is not supported in Parallels Desktop or other virtual machines.
Revit CPU Requirements: Clock Speed and Cores
Autodesk asks for an Intel or AMD processor with a base clock of 2 GHz or higher and recommends the highest single-core base clock you can get. Its CPU recommendations for workstations go further: Revit benefits from a high-performance CPU, so choose a processor of 3 GHz or more with multiple cores and an L3 cache, which Autodesk says helps operations such as model regeneration.
Revit also uses multiple cores for many tasks, and Autodesk puts the gain at up to 20%. Its list includes opening and saving files, loading elements into memory when a view first opens, printing and vector export to DWG and DWF, the Autodesk Raytracer, point cloud display and background MEP calculations. So look for both a high clock speed and several cores. For specific processors, see our guide to the best CPUs for rendering.
Revit RAM Requirements by Model Size
Revit keeps model data in memory, and when RAM runs short, Windows swaps to disk and everything slows down. Autodesk's memory recommendations give a rule of thumb: you need about 20 times the size of your compacted central file in RAM. Its requirement levels turn that into model sizes:
16 GB: a single model of up to about 300 MB on disk (Minimum)
32 GB or more: up to about 600 MB (Value)
64 GB or more: up to about 1 GB (Performance)
Models created in older Revit versions may need more memory for the one-time upgrade. After long sessions, Autodesk suggests restarting Revit before memory-intensive tasks such as printing, rendering, exporting or upgrading models.
Graphics Card Requirements for Revit
Revit uses the graphics card to draw your views. With hardware acceleration on, Autodesk says large models display faster when they refresh and you switch between view windows more quickly. Its video card recommendations say that dedicated cards are strongly recommended, ideally ones designed for CAD applications.
Every level asks for a DirectX 11 card with Shader Model 5 and 24-bit color; the video memory goes from 4 GB (recommended at the minimum level) to 6 GB (Value) and 8 GB (Performance). Since Revit 2023.1, Revit no longer shows a certification status: under File › Options › Hardware it reports directly whether your DirectX version, Shader Model and GPU memory meet its hardware acceleration requirements (Revit hardware certification FAQ). Graphics hardware that meets Autodesk's requirements is supported, and cards that are not on the vendors' certified graphics hardware lists may still work. Revit's built-in Autodesk Raytracer is among the features that use multiple processor cores, while external render engines set their own graphics requirements.

Storage: How Much Disk Space Revit Needs
Autodesk asks for 30 GB of disk space to install Revit 2027 and recommends 100 GB of free space for temporary files; it does not publish a download size. Drive speed matters when a model loads, when you save locally and when Windows swaps memory to disk, but Autodesk's hard drive recommendations call a faster drive "a considerably lower priority" than a faster CPU and more RAM. The exception is point clouds, where an SSD significantly improves view performance. Plan for:
30 GB for installation, the same at every level
100 GB of free space for temporary files
Three times the size of the RVT files of your cloud-workshared projects (see below)
A Windows swap file of at least twice your installed RAM, with the same minimum and maximum size, as Autodesk's Help suggests
Revit Cloud Worksharing Requirements
For Revit Cloud Worksharing, Autodesk asks for local disk space of three times the equivalent RVT files of all the cloud-workshared projects you open. It also recommends keeping Revit Personal Accelerator running at all times, even when Revit is closed: it keeps the latest changes of each recently opened cloud model on your machine, so they do not have to be downloaded every time. Each machine needs a symmetrical internet connection for burst transfers of:
5 Mbps at the Minimum level
10 Mbps at the Value level
25 Mbps at the Performance level
Autodesk's network recommendations add a latency below 400 ms to the Amazon AWS US East region and a gigabit local network (network cards, Cat 5e or Cat 6 cabling and switches) for workshared projects in the office.
Operating System and Software Dependencies
Revit runs only on Microsoft Windows; there is no macOS version. Revit 2027 needs 64-bit Windows 11, while Revit 2026 also runs on 64-bit Windows 10 version 1809 or later.
Revit 2027 also needs:
.NET 10 (Revit 2026: .NET 8, and .NET 10 from version 2026.5)
Chrome, Edge or Firefox
Desktop Connector 16.x or later when you use it for collaboration; version 15.8 and earlier are not supported
An MS-Mouse compliant pointing device (Revit LT also accepts 3Dconnexion devices)
An internet connection for license registration and prerequisite downloads
Revit on Mac: Parallels Desktop Requirements
There is no Revit for macOS. On a Mac, Autodesk's recommended setup is Windows in a Parallels Desktop virtual machine, with the same configuration for Revit and Revit LT:
Setting | Revit 2027 | Revit 2026 |
|---|---|---|
macOS on the Mac | 13.7 Ventura or newer | 10.13 High Sierra or newer |
Memory on the Mac | 32 GB | 16 GB |
Mac processor | Any Apple silicon chip, or an Intel Mac with a quad-core Core i7 or better | Apple silicon, or an Intel Mac with a 2.7 GHz quad-core Core i7 or newer |
Windows in the virtual machine | Windows 11 | Windows 11, or Windows 10 version 1809 or later on Intel Macs |
Virtual machine memory | 16 GB | 16 GB |
Virtual machine graphics | 4 GB of video memory for the virtual machine; Revit's "Use Hardware Acceleration" off; Parallels' Retina resolution options off | Same |
Accelerated Graphics | Not supported | Not recommended |
Free disk space | 40 GB minimum, 100 GB recommended | Same |
Apple's Boot Camp works only on Intel-based Macs, and Apple documents it for Windows 10, which Revit 2027 no longer supports. For Macs with M1, M2 or M3 chips, Microsoft names Parallels Desktop as an authorized way to run the Arm version of Windows 11. If you would rather not run Windows at all, see our list of Revit alternatives that run on a Mac.
Revit vs AutoCAD System Requirements
Many offices run AutoCAD next to Revit, but a computer that meets Revit's minimum does not automatically meet AutoCAD 2027's basic configuration, which asks for a faster processor with 8 logical cores and a larger screen. Autodesk's figures for the 2027 versions:
Component | Revit 2027 (Minimum) | AutoCAD 2027 (Basic) | AutoCAD LT 2027 (Basic) |
|---|---|---|---|
Operating system | 64-bit Windows 11 | 64-bit Windows 11 | 64-bit Windows 11 |
Processor | Intel or AMD, 2 GHz or higher base clock | 2.5–2.9 GHz with 8 logical cores | 2.5–2.9 GHz; Arm processors not supported |
Memory | 16 GB (32 GB at the Value level) | 16 GB (32 GB recommended) | 8 GB (16 GB recommended) |
Graphics card | DirectX 11 with Shader Model 5; 4 GB recommended | 2 GB, DirectX 11 (8 GB and DirectX 12 recommended) | 1 GB, DirectX 11 (4 GB and DirectX 12 recommended) |
Display | 1280 × 1024 | 1920 × 1080 | 1920 × 1080 |
Disk space | 30 GB, plus 100 GB free for temporary files | 10 GB (SSD suggested) | 10 GB (SSD suggested) |
A workstation for both should meet the higher figure in each row and keep its graphics driver up to date. Autodesk also sells Revit LT and AutoCAD LT together as the AutoCAD Revit LT Suite. For the full AutoCAD figures, including Mac and the specialized toolsets, see our guide to AutoCAD system requirements.
Revit LT 2027 System Requirements
Revit LT is Autodesk's single-user BIM tool for small studios and solo practitioners. Full Revit adds worksharing and collaboration, advanced simulation and analysis, and the MEP and construction modeling toolsets (Autodesk's Revit LT page). Revit LT 2027 has one configuration, the same as Revit's minimum level, with two differences:
Accelerated Graphics: a card with 6 GB or more of video memory and OpenGL 4.5 or higher (8 GB for full Revit)
Pointing device: MS-Mouse or 3Dconnexion compliant
Older guides also mention "Revit Architecture": it is not a current product, and Autodesk's requirements page covers only Revit and Revit LT.
Revit Requirements for a Laptop
A laptop for Revit 2027 should have:
64-bit Windows 11; a MacBook only through Windows 11 in Parallels Desktop (see above)
An Intel or AMD processor with a high single-core clock; Autodesk's Help suggests 3 GHz or more with multiple cores
32 GB of RAM (16 GB is the minimum; 64 GB for models of about 1 GB), ideally in slots you can upgrade
A dedicated graphics card with at least 4 GB of video memory, or 6–8 GB for the Value and Performance levels and for Accelerated Graphics
A screen of 1680 × 1050 or more, or an external monitor; see our guide to monitors for architects
At least 130 GB of free disk space (30 GB to install plus 100 GB for temporary files); we would choose an SSD
No Arm-based Windows processor: for Windows PCs, Autodesk names only Intel and AMD processors
For models and prices, see our guides to laptops for architecture students and laptops for 3D modeling and rendering.
How to Check if Your PC Can Run Revit
Processor, RAM and Windows version: open Settings › System › About. Under Device specifications you see the processor, the installed RAM and whether Windows is 64-bit; under Windows specifications, the edition and version (Microsoft's guide).
Free disk space: Settings › System › Storage shows how much space is left.
DirectX version: type dxdiag in the search box, open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool and read the DirectX version on the System tab (Microsoft's steps).
Graphics card: once Revit or its trial is installed, File › Options › Hardware reports whether your card meets Revit's hardware acceleration requirements.
Key Takeaways
Revit 2027 needs 64-bit Windows 11, an Intel or AMD processor with a 2 GHz or higher base clock, 16 GB of RAM, a DirectX 11 card with Shader Model 5 (4 GB of video memory recommended), a 1280 × 1024 display, 30 GB of disk space plus 100 GB free for temporary files, and .NET 10.
Recommended (Value): 32 GB of RAM, a 6 GB graphics card and a 1680 × 1050 display, for models of about 600 MB.
Large and complex models of about 1 GB call for 64 GB of RAM, an 8 GB graphics card and a 1920 × 1200 display.
Revit performance relies mainly on high CPU clock speed and sufficient system memory; drive speed matters far less, and an SSD helps most with point clouds.
Revit 2026 still runs on Windows 10 version 1809 or later, which Microsoft stopped supporting on 14 October 2025.
Windows is the only operating system Revit runs on; on a Mac, Autodesk lists Windows 11 in Parallels Desktop.
Rendering Revit Views in the Browser
ArchiVinci runs in the browser: export a 3D view from Revit as an image, upload it (JPG, PNG or WebP up to 5 MB; RVT files are not read) and describe the result in a sentence, and in seconds ArchiVinci generates a new image that follows your upload. The AI rendering happens online rather than on your own computer. A new account starts with 3 free credits.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you run Revit on a laptop?
Yes, if the laptop meets Autodesk's figures: 64-bit Windows 11, an Intel or AMD processor, at least 16 GB of RAM (32 GB for models of about 600 MB) and a DirectX 11 graphics card, ideally a dedicated one with 4 GB or more of video memory. The laptop checklist above lists what to look for.
Is Revit more CPU or GPU intensive?
Both, for different jobs. Autodesk describes Revit as a computationally intensive application that benefits from a high-performance CPU, and its Help warns that too little RAM can significantly hurt model performance. The graphics card draws the views: Autodesk strongly recommends a dedicated card, and hardware acceleration makes large models display faster.
What kind of CPU is best for Revit?
Autodesk does not name processor models. It asks for an Intel or AMD processor with a base clock of 2 GHz or higher and recommends the highest single-core base clock; its Help suggests 3 GHz or more with multiple cores and an L3 cache, because Revit also uses several cores for tasks such as opening and saving files, printing and exports.
Are there Revit alternatives with lower system requirements?
Yes, some Revit alternatives can run on less powerful hardware, particularly for smaller or conceptual projects. However, they often offer more limited BIM features and reduced performance for large or complex models.
Do you need a dedicated graphics card for Revit?
Autodesk does not make it a hard rule: graphics hardware that meets the requirements (DirectX 11 with Shader Model 5, with 4 GB of video memory recommended at the minimum level) is supported. Its Help, however, strongly recommends a dedicated card, and for Accelerated Graphics Autodesk recommends 8 GB of video memory or more. For anything beyond small models, plan on a dedicated card.
How much VRAM is recommended for Revit?
Autodesk recommends 4 GB of video memory at the minimum level, 6 GB at the Value level and 8 GB at the Performance level. For Accelerated Graphics it recommends 8 GB or more (6 GB in Revit LT) and requires OpenGL 4.5, and its Help suggests 64 GB of system RAM for the best experience.
How much RAM does Revit need?
Autodesk sizes memory by the model you edit: 16 GB for a single model of up to about 300 MB on disk, 32 GB for about 600 MB and 64 GB for about 1 GB. As a rule of thumb, its Help puts the need at about 20 times the size of your compacted central file. Models from older versions may need more memory for the one-time upgrade.
How many GB of disk space does Revit need?
Autodesk asks for 30 GB of disk space to install Revit 2027 or 2026 and recommends 100 GB of free space for temporary files, so plan on about 130 GB. Cloud-workshared projects need three times the size of their RVT files on top. Autodesk lists the space needed, not the download size.
Does cloud worksharing increase system requirements?
Yes, for disk space and bandwidth. Autodesk asks for three times the disk space of the equivalent RVT files for all the cloud-workshared projects you open, a symmetrical internet connection of 5, 10 or 25 Mbps per machine depending on the level, and Revit Personal Accelerator running at all times.
Is SSD storage necessary for Revit?
No. Autodesk's requirements name no drive type, and its Help ranks a faster drive well below a faster CPU and more RAM; an SSD significantly improves view performance when a project contains point clouds. For a new computer we would still choose an SSD, but the processor and memory come first.
Does Revit 2027 run on Windows 10?
No. Revit 2027 and Revit LT 2027 run only on 64-bit Windows 11. Revit 2026 still lists Windows 10 version 1809 or later, but Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 Home and Pro on 14 October 2025, and Autodesk stops supporting its products on an operating system once the vendor does.
Can I run Revit on a Mac with Apple silicon?
Only through Windows. Autodesk's configuration for Revit 2027 on Apple computers lists any Apple silicon chip, macOS 13.7 or newer, 32 GB of memory on the Mac and a Windows 11 virtual machine with 16 GB in Parallels Desktop. Accelerated Graphics is not supported there, and Boot Camp works only on Intel Macs.
Does Revit run on Windows laptops with Arm processors?
For Windows PCs, Autodesk's requirements name only Intel and AMD processors; Arm-based Windows laptops, such as Snapdragon models, are not listed. The only Arm setup Autodesk lists is Windows 11 in Parallels Desktop on an Apple silicon Mac. If you buy a Windows laptop for Revit, choose an Intel or AMD processor.
When can I download Revit 2027?
Revit 2027 is the current release: Autodesk presented it on its blog on 7 April 2026. Subscribers find it in their Autodesk Account, and a Revit subscription also gives access to the three previous versions (Autodesk's Revit FAQ).
Do rendering plugins change Revit hardware requirements?
Often, yes: many render engines and real-time viewers that work with Revit rely on the graphics card and publish their own requirements, so check the vendor's page for the one you use and see our guide to the best GPUs for rendering. An AI rendering tool in the browser creates the image on a server instead, so for that step your PC's graphics card matters less.
