Floor Plan AI: Color and Render Your 2D Floor Plan

Upload a picture of your 2D floor plan, pick one of four styles (3D view, Marker, Solid color or Drawing) and ArchiVinci generates a new image of the plan in that style. You get a presentation image, not a CAD file, a measured drawing or a 3D model.

What is a colored or rendered floor plan?

A colored floor plan is a 2D floor plan with every room or zone filled with color, and a rendered floor plan also shows materials such as wood floors and tiles. Both are plan views, seen from straight above. They are made to present a layout to clients and buyers, not to build from.

With ArchiVinci you make either one from a black-and-white floor plan you already have. Upload a picture of your 2D floor plan to the Floor plan module and pick one of four styles: 3D view, Marker, Solid color or Drawing. Add a short description if you like, and the AI generates a new image of the plan in that style.

AI floor plan coloring changes how your plan looks; the tool does not draw floor plans. The result is an image for presentation, not a CAD file, a measured drawing or a 3D model.

How to Color and Render a Floor Plan with AI

To render a floor plan with AI, you need the plan as an image.

  1. Press the button below: it opens the app on the Floor plan module. Log in or create an account; you need one to upload and generate.

  2. Upload a picture of your 2D floor plan under Input image: JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 5 MB. A PDF or CAD drawing must be exported as an image first.

  3. Under Style, pick one of the four buttons: 3D view, Marker, Solid color or Drawing. A style is required.

  4. Optional: under Prompt (optional), add a short description that fits the style, such as a color per room or floor finishes.

  5. Leave Render engine on the default, ArchiVinci 4.0, and press Generate. One image costs one credit; the result opens in a before/after viewer and can be downloaded.

One Floor Plan in Four Styles

The four results below come from one uploaded floor plan, with a separate run per style and the prompt left empty.

Four AI versions of one 2D floor plan in a grid: a realistic view from above, a marker illustration, flat color per room and a black line drawing.
One uploaded floor plan, four runs with the prompt left empty. Top left: 3D view. Top right: Marker. Bottom left: Solid color. Bottom right: Drawing.

Each run costs one credit, so the 3 credits of a new account cover three of the four styles.

In the example above, Marker came back as a hand-colored illustration, Solid color and Drawing as flat 2D graphics, and 3D view as a realistic picture seen from straight above.

3D View: A Rendered Plan with Materials

3D view is the style for a rendered floor plan. It asks for a realistic view of your plan seen from straight above, with white walls, realistic textures, no tilt and no text or labels. The same style also asks for modern furniture in every room, so the pieces in the result can differ from the ones you drew.

Use it on a plan that already shows its fixtures and furniture. If the rooms on your plan are empty, see how to furnish a 2D floor plan.

The prompt field's own example asks for floor finishes and wall color in a 2D floor plan rendering:

light oak floors and white walls

Left: the plan as uploaded. Right: 3D view with the prompt "light oak floors and white walls".

Marker: A Hand-Colored Illustration

Marker asks for a hand-colored marker illustration of your plan, in low-contrast colors, with visible strokes and soft outlines. Its request excludes a photo or CAD look. Use it for concept boards and early client meetings.

Solid Color: One Flat Color per Room

Solid color asks for one flat color in each room and clear black outlines, with no gradients, textures or 3D depth. Use it for zoning diagrams and sales plans, where a colored floor plan has to show which room is which. To ask for specific colors, name them per room in the prompt.

Drawing: A Clean Line Drawing with Thick Walls

Drawing asks for an architectural line drawing of your plan with thick walls and straight lines. It is the only style that does not ask for color. The result is still an image, not a CAD or vector file.

How to Write a Floor Plan Render Prompt

The prompt is optional. What you type is added to the style's request and never replaces it, so a floor plan render prompt names only what the style leaves open:

  • Solid color: a color for each room.

  • 3D view: floor finishes, as in the example above. The style already asks for white walls.

  • Marker: a color palette.

  • Drawing: usually nothing.

The example below is a Solid color result: the rooms came out in flat colors with black outlines.

Black-and-white 2D floor plan on the left; on the right the same plan as a colored floor plan, flat colors per room with black outlines.
Left: the plan as uploaded. Right: the result of the Solid color style.

To ask for colors like these, name one for each room:

Living room mint green, dining area light orange, kitchen pale yellow, bedrooms green, blue and lilac, bathrooms and garage gray-blue.

The colors you name are added to the style's request. Which room gets which color can vary from run to run, so compare the result with your prompt and generate again if a room is off.

  • Keep your prompt to one or two short sentences, and name rooms by their use.

  • A prompt is a request: it cannot fix a wall in place or add measurements.

What can the floor plan AI do, and what can't it do?

It can change the look of a floor plan you upload; it cannot draw a plan, measure one or turn one into a 3D model.

It can't:

  • Draw a floor plan from a description or from a photo of a room. For that you need floor plan software.

  • Read or keep measurements. It does not use dimensions, areas or scale, and no style is asked to keep room names or dimension text.

  • Export CAD, vector or PDF files. The result is an image.

  • Make a perspective view or a 3D model. Every style asks for a plan view.

The AI redraws your plan as a new image. It is a picture for presentation, not a measured drawing, so check walls, doors and windows against your original.

Where Colored and Rendered Floor Plans Are Used

Both are for people who do not read technical drawings: clients, buyers and juries.

Real Estate Floor Plans for Listings and Brochures

A real estate floor plan has to show a buyer at a glance which room is which. Solid color asks for a flat color per room, 3D view for realistic materials. Use the result as a marketing floor plan next to the measured plan, which stays the only source for room sizes and labels.

Sketch to Floor Plan: From a Hand-Drawn Plan to a Clean Image

Photograph or scan your hand-drawn floor plan, upload the picture and pick Drawing, the style that asks for thick walls and straight lines.

Picture of a floor plan sketched on paper on the left; on the right the same plan as a clean black line drawing with thick walls.
Left: the uploaded picture of a plan sketched on paper. Right: the result of the Drawing style with the prompt left empty.

In this example, a picture of a plan sketched on paper came back as a clean line drawing with the same rooms. The result is an image for a first presentation, not an editable or measured drawing, so compare it with your sketch.

Need an editable plan instead? In Floor Plan Maker, AI rebuilds a sketch, a plan image or a PDF as a floor plan with walls, doors, windows and rooms that you check, edit and export as DXF (one credit for a free member), in a desktop browser.

Which tool fits a different kind of drawing?

The Floor plan module fits one floor of a building drawn in 2D; other drawings go to other tools.

Frequently Asked Questions About AI Floor Plan Coloring

Can AI turn a floor plan into a render?

Yes, as a rendered plan seen from straight above, not as a perspective view of a room. The 3D view style asks for realistic materials. For a perspective render, start from a view of the space: render from a sketch, CAD drawing or 3D model.

Is the floor plan render AI free?

A new account gets 3 free credits. One image on the default engine costs one credit, so that is three images: three of the four styles. For more, see plans and prices.

Do I need to write a prompt to color a floor plan?

No. A style is the only required choice, and each style carries its own request. The prompt is optional and is added to that request.

Does the AI change walls, doors or room sizes when it colors a floor plan?

It can: every result is a newly generated image, and nothing locks walls, doors or windows. Compare each result with your plan and generate again if something moved. The tool does not read dimensions, so for sizes rely on your original drawing.

Can I turn a hand-drawn sketch into a colored floor plan?

Yes, as an image. Photograph or scan the sketch, upload it and pick Solid color or Marker for color. Results from rough sketches vary and the picture is not an editable or measured drawing, so compare it with your sketch.

Can I upload a PDF or a CAD file?

Not directly. The uploader takes one image per run (JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 5 MB), so save the PDF or CAD drawing as an image first. The result is an image too: no CAD, vector or PDF file comes back.

Can AI create a floor plan from scratch?

Not with this tool. The Floor plan module starts from a plan you upload and changes how it looks. It does not draw a layout from a description, a room list or a photo of a room.
